LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Snellville man wanted in connection with the alleged stabbing death of his roommate has turned himself in to authorities in Northwest Florida, where he awaits extradition to Gwinnett County.
The suspect's surrender came after Gwinnett County Police issued a murder warrant and BOLO (be on the lookout) notice on Saturday. At 12:24 p.m. Saturday, Gwinnett County Police officers were dispatched to 2467 Hurndon Road in unincorporated Snellville, where they found 28-year-old Brent Francis suffering from multiple stab wounds.
According to Cpl. Jake Smith, the victim was "able to tell officers that his roommate, Stephen O'Reilly, 24 years old, had attacked him."
Smith said O'Reilly fled the scene in Francis' vehicle, a black 1994 Toyota Camry. Detectives then obtained the murder warrant based on Francis' statement and evidence collected at the scene. After being transported to Gwinnett Medical Center, Francis died as a result of his injuries.
On Monday, O'Reilly turned himself in to authorities in Escambia County, Fla. The stolen vehicle was located nearby in Pensacola, Fla.
Smith said the motive in the case is still under investigation.
