Two North Gwinnett French students are featured in a video airing on Gwinnett County Public Schools-TV and the GCPS web site. Kara Jones and Theodore Chang were winners in last year's Green Connection Contest sponsored by the French Consulate and won an all-expense paid trip to study the environement in France this summer in a total immersion setting.
Suwanee's National Merit semifinalists
Gwinnett County Public Schools recently announced that 52 seniors have qualified as semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation recently announced that the representatives of 11 Gwinnett high schools are part of approximately 16,000 top students from across the nation who will now compete for the official National Merit Scholar title and the thousands of dollars in scholarships that are annually awarded to graduating seniors along with the honor. Peachtree Ridge SAT
Peachtree Ridge High is now a test site for the SAT. Upcoming test dates are: Oct, 6, Nov. 3, Dec. 1, Jan. 26, March 9, May 4, and June 1. School officials encourage students to sign-up for PRHS as their test site and these PRHS students who register for the test here are offered a free Strategy Boot Camp the week before each test. There is no cost to the student. The Strategy Boot Camp will consist of a two-hour critical reading/verbal session and a two-hour math session. Students who sign up to take the SAT at PRHS will receive an invitation from the community school.
NGHS PSAT registration
All ninth- and 10th-grade North Gwinnett High students will get the opportunity to take the PSAT on October 17th at no cost. Any 11th grade student may pay to participate in the PSAT by registering through MyPaymentsPlus.com and paying $15. Registration is open, but there is a limited number of tests, so registration is on a first come basis. Any questions about PSAT should be sent to email@example.com.
PRHS PSAT registration
The PSAT will be administered on Oct. 17 at Peachtree Ridge High School. All sophomores will automaticall sit for the PSAT, there is no fee and no need to register. Freshmen or juniors may register for the test and pay the $15 fee through MyPaymentsPlus.
New driver's ed at PRHS
A new driver's education class will begin on Monday through Oct. 11 from 3 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., Monday through Thursday. See the community school for information or call 678-512-6040.
DECA pine straw for sale
The North Gwinnett High DECA chapter is selling high-quality pine straw for $4 per bale delivered, and $5.50 per bale delivered and spread. Visit ngdeca.org for more details. Check, cash, Visa and MasterCard are accepted. Proceeds will help DECA members attend the International DECA Competition in Anaheim, Calif. in April.
Peachtree Ridge soccer kickoff
The Peachtree Ridge High soccer kickoff (organizational) meeting will be held on Oct. 9 in the PRHS theatre from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This soccer informational meeting is for all students interested in trying out for one of the soccer teams at Peachtree Ridge in the spring. You must have at least one parent/guardian present at the meeting.
NGHS baseball golf tournament
The North Gwinnett High School baseball team will be hold its third annual golf tournament at Sugar Hill Golf Club on Oct. 8. The cost is $100 per player and there will be several contests that will include a three day, two night stay at a Daytona Beach resort, a new vehicle for a hole-in-one, and a silent auction with other prizes such as gift baskets and sports memorabilia. North Gwinnett chorus concert
A North Gwinnett chorus concert is Tuesday in the North Gwinnett Theatre. The house opens at 6:30 p.m., and admission is free.-- From Staff Reports
