GAINESVILLE -- Buford clinched a state softball berth with a pair of run-ruled wins in the Region 7-AAA tournament on Saturday.
The No. 2 seeded Wolves (22-2) blasted host East Hall 8-0 in the opener and then pounded out 15 hits in a 13-4 victory over Fannin County. Buford ended both games in the sixth inning.
The wins set up a date with Dawson County on Monday at 6 p.m. The winner of that gets to host the championship rounds starting at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Emily Crocker (4-0) took a perfect game into the fifth inning and picked up the win against East Hall. The sophomore struck out nine and walked none while giving up just three hits in the shutout.
The offense was led by another sophomore, Jordan Deep, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored. One of her doubles scored the run needed to end the game in the sixth.
Senior Jazmin Hawkins was 2-for-3 with an inside-the-park home run. Junior Noah Sudderth (1-for-2) and sophomore Tessa Daniels (1-for-3) each had an RBI.
Deep continued the slugfest, going 3-for-4 against Fannin County with two triples hit to the base of the outfield wall, two RBIs and two runs.
Sudderth was also 3-for-4 two doubles with three RBIs.
Remington Hasty (3-for-4) and Hawkins (2-for-4) each had a triple, an RBI and scored two runs in the second game.
Bria Bush (13-2) got the win, striking out eight while walking four and giving up five hits in six innings. None of the runs were earned.
