SUWANEE -- A Suwanee man was arrested Thursday after police said he stalked multiple women at a WalMart store and exposed himself to at least one of them.
Ronald Wayne Smith was held on $22,400 bond in the Gwinnett County Detention Center on Friday after he was charged with misdemeanor public indecency and stalking. Suwanee Police Sgt. Shane Edmisten said Smith followed a woman, who was with a 9-year-old daughter and infant son, through the WalMart at 3245 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road, and when the woman confronted Smith, he exposed himself.
The incident alledgedly occurred on Wednesday, but was reported by an asset protection coordinator for WalMart to police on Thursday, after the victim reportedly ran to the front of the store and told a cashier.
Edmisten said it was apparent from more than two hours of surveillance video that Smith followed more than one woman around the store, and there could possibly be other victims.
According to a reporting officer's narrative, Smith was reported by officers to be sleeping in some bushes between the WalMart store and the Tires Plus store. While the officers determined that Smith hadn't violated any codes or ordinances, the officers drove him to a Budgetel motel where he was staying.
After officers reviewed surveillance photos from WalMart, they immediately recognized the man in the photos as Smith.
Officers then returned to Smith's room at the motel and interviewed him about the reported incident. During the interview, Smith was reportedly belligerent, and said, "Do you want to see what this is about?"
Smith then tossed a sex toy at the feet of an officer and said, "That is what I showed the woman."
Edmisten said the unusually high bond was because of the nature of the incident.
Edmisten said he encourages any other victims to contact the Suwanee Police Department at 770-945-8995.
