New movie theater to open in Duluth

DULUTH -- A new movie theater coming to town, continuing a trend of theathers that also serve food and beverages.

On Nov. 2, Studio Movie Grill is opening a location in Duluth at 3850 Venture Drive with in-theater dining, a full service bar and first-run movies.

During its opening weekend, Studio Movie will offer $1 movie tickets for flicks like, "Wreck It Ralph" and "The Man With the Iron Fists."

"We strategically selected Duluth for SMG's newest location because the area demonstrated a high demand for first-run movies and had an appealing demographic for the concept," said Brian Schultz, founder, owner and president of Studio Movie Grill in a release. "We felt that Duluth was simply the perfect community for our next destination and we are committed to providing superior customer service and becoming its premier location for first-run movies. We believe Studio Movie Grill will become Gwinnett's first choice for movie-watching because we offer both quality and value."

The theater boasts reserved seating through online ticket purchases, state-of-the-art Dolby Digital technology and 3-D and a menu with more than 100 food and beverage options.

Some options on the food menu include hand-tossed gourmet pizzas, turkey burgers, grilled chicken tenders, fruits and veggies, plus the movie theater staples like hot dogs and candy.

Why would they open a theatre in this area of Gwinnett? It's riddled with gang activity and even a recent random murder at at rental car facility. NO WAY I'd open a business near Gwinnett Mall area...the whole area has dried up because of the gangs and violence. Out of business in 1 year!

Glad to hear another new business is opening near Gwinnett Place Mall. New businesses opening, older businesses renovating, new landscaping and sidewalks are changing the look and feel of the area. Driving through there on a Saturday night recently, we noticed people actually walking from one business to the other. It's going to be a huge effort to turn the area around, but it's already improving. I'd love to see what the area could become if the mall itself could also be renovated or remodeled.

I hope it succeeds, but with the economy the way it is, I doubt many people will be willing to now pay high prices to eat a meal while watching a movie. Popcorn in $5.00 in a regular movie theater! I can imagine what the price of "hot" food will cost here. That is more cheaply done on a home TV and a lap tray! There are other movie houses just like this and they are not seeing high volume business.

In terms of the food, the price for it isn't much more than what you would pay at the similar restaurants around this location (example: Applebee's and Chili's). It may be a little more expensive but you do save the convenience from having to plan 3-4 hours for a dinner and a movie. The food is of similar quality to these places as well.

You don't have to buy food though to see a movie. If you opt to not buy food then you can just watch the movie in seats that are more comfortable than movie theater seats (think office chairs).

If they can keep the $10.50 tickets, they will be cheaper than going to AMC at discover mills for a movie ($11).

It's good to see someone taking a chance in the area. Mall Corners is more than 1/2 empty. Gwinnett Place Mall has many empty spaces too. I would love to see this area vibrant again.
