SUGAR HILL -- Kaylee Ramos picked the right time for a no-hitter.
The Lanier pitcher turned in the gem in Game 3 of the first round of the Region 8-AAAA fastpitch softball tournament as the Longhorns beat Eastside 1-0 to clinch the series.
Ramos pitched all seven innings, striking out seven for the win. Noelle Petty was 2-for-3 and scored the winning run and Holland Coursey had two hits for Lanier. The Longhorns advance to play at Madison County in the second round Saturday at 11 a.m.
Norcross 18, Cambridge 4
MILTON -- Hannah Laury hit a home run on a 2-for-4, five RBI night as Norcross crushed Cambridge 18-4.
Vanessa Bradford went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and picked up the win on the mound, striking out seven in five innings, allowing no earned runs and two singles.
Rickary Holloman was 3-for-3 with four runs scored and Kelly Schmidt was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Buford sweeps North Hall
GAINESVILLE -- Maggie Roper had 11 kills and eight digs to lead Buford to a two-game sweep over North Hall on Wednesday.
Kaitlin Tatum added six kills, Hannah Manley five and Tori Payton had 20 assists to go with Mikayla Riegel's 11 digs for the Wolves.
GAC takes down Athens Academy
ATHENS -- Emma Taylor had eight kills and eight digs and Lauren Brown added five kills as GAC beat Athens Academy in three straight games Wednesday.
Jennie McCarty had 21 assists and 10 digs for the Spartans (23-8).
