LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett County police are still investigating an apparent self-defense shooting at a Lawrenceville apartment complex.
Police said 21-year-old Bobby Smith Jr. was killed early Saturday during an attempted robbery at the Wesley St. Claire Apartments on Sweetwater Road. According to authorities, a resident at apartment unit 704 said Smith and another male suspect -- who has not been identified or located -- were attempting to complete a home invasion burglary when he fired multiple shots at about 3:10 a.m.
Smith's body was found outside the apartment building. Crime scene technicians also made note of gunshots through the door of unit 704, Gwinnett County police spokesman Sgt. Rich Long said.
The apartment resident and Smith are believed to have known each other. The resident was transported to central precinct for interviews Saturday. He has not been identified.
No new information was released on the case Monday, as homicide detectives continue to work both it and the Friday evening murder of a Duluth rental car facility employee.
