LETTERS: Who cares if Romney's speech was 'leaked'?

In reference to Cal Thomas' view of Mitt Romney's leaked tape ("President's failures out in the open," Sept. 20, 8A): In Mr. Thomas's eyes the seriousness of the meaning behind the statement is dismissed because someone "leaked" it? Continuing with Mr. Thomas's logic, does that mean if someone speeds on the highway and does not get caught, or if someone steals and doesn't get caught it is OK?

It is also interesting that the far right had to go back 14 years to find something on President Obama to try to "one up" and deflect this situation. My take is, 14 years, are you serious? Regardless of the meaning behind what was said back in 1998, was the world situation the same then as today?

The fact is Romney made the statement and if Romney stands behind it, then the future of our armed forces, senior citizens, those in assisted living, and hard working individuals that earn minimal income resulting in no income tax will have their lives changed forever.

If Romney really believes all these people do not take personal responsibility for their lives, that feel they are entitled to the government taking care of their lives, he is really out of touch. Even President George W. Bush's theme "We are all one, when some are hurting, we all are hurting, we need to take care of each other" is 180 degrees from Romney's belief.

It is time that every person, including newspaper contributors become an agent of change of the political rhetoric that distracts and divides this nation. It is time we all demand both parties begin discussing the real issues facing our country. This country need solutions articulated into real action items; we should expect and settle for nothing less.

Thank you, Joseph Brown, for a very good response.

then why all these people complaining here don't go out and give their time and money to the poor? They want all of us to do it while they keep their own money for beer and vacations.

Libs only talk about distractions and divisiveness when it's an election cycle. The rest of the time it's full speed ahead over the cliff. Obama has done absolutely nothing to improve the atmosphere in Washington or in the country has a whole. His complete lack of foreign policy expertise is now on display for all to see. Why should he be reelected ??? It's the [D] and nothing else. If you changed Obama to an [R] and Romney to the [D] the liberals would be blasting Obama for his complete failure to do any constructive thing for this country.

Its really funny how the Republicans tried to lay their faults onto Democrats. Its Romney that has had absolutely no foreign policy experience. His inaccurate response and ill advised response to the attack on an embassy just proves how ill equipped he is to handle any relations with foreign countries. Obama repeatedly reached out to Republicans only to be met with statements like the one from House Speaker John Boehner when he said the main goal of Republicans should be to get Obama out of the white house. Since then, the house has wasted time with idiotic votes to overturn the health care bill. He did that 33 times! In fact the Republicans insist on things in the House bills that they know will not get past the Senate Democrats and no chance of the President signing. Anyone that would vote for one of these tea party Republicans just have not been paying attention to their "my way is the only way" attitude. President Obama even compromised on an extension of the Bush tax cuts even though he knew that move would further increase the debt and the Republicans would try to blame him. Now they want him to compromise his standards again even though he clearly stated that he would not allow the foolish tax cuts to be extended a second time. Trickle down did not work under Reagan and was even a worse failure under Bush yet Romney insists that he must give the rich more tax cuts. If the tax code was not written to the advantage of the rich with special levels for capital gains and special deductions, Romney would have paid enough more taxes to hire at least 75 more teachers, firemen, or police. He didn't use a dime of that extra money to create additional jobs.

Bless your heart, Know_it_all! Do you spend all day and night searching the www for FICTION on Romney instead of searching for FACTS on your Americal Idol Obama?

FACT is that when Obama was running for the job that you and entitlement junkies gave him, he had NO foreign policy experience, NO success running a business or corporation, and certainly NO as even running a state. Romney could have failed miserably at all of the above, yet he would be better suited to run this country that your American Idol Obama.

You are so right, Mr. Brown. Kudos to the family of the worst President ever (Carter) for their tactics in trying to help save American Idol Obama's job. Keep attacking Romney and the Republicans because that is ALL you have. Obama walks and talks like the lame duck he is!

On a final note, Know_it_all ...... stop worrying about Romney's money and what he did with it. Romney has contributed MORE in a handful of years to Entitlements through Taxes, Jobs and Philanthropy than Obama EVER WILL in a lifetime of tax returns and leftover wealth.

I'm afraid Romney not only has more foreign knowledge than Obama, who has none, but also more experience in all areas that count to get us working in this country again. We do not want a person as President that will always apologize to the enemy, and they are out enemy.

Sthrnldy: (some also applies as response to Kevin). First, I don't "know-it-all", that is why I do the research before blurting out absurd comments echoing a party line talking points (about 1/3rd of the talking points are blatant lies and another 1/3rd are distortions). Fact: Obama had four years of experience in the Senate, which include service on Foreign Relations committee, European Relations Committee, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs and other committees. These gave him foreign relations experience prior to his presidency. Since then he has had an additional 2 years 8 months foreign relations experience. Please note that this means President Obama has more than 100 times the foreign relations experience of Romney (though factual, I admit that this statement would fall into the category of misleading talking points) Romney's business experience did not prepare him for the presidency. Maybe if he had actually created productive businesses like Ross Perot or Warren Buffet, then he might have some experience that would help him as president, but he was in charge of a vulture capitalism company. He was in position of dictator. Dictators make lousy presidents. And what about Romney's donations make them so great? How much went to the Mormon Church, which has the a stock portfolio estimated by time magazine to exceed of $30 billion and growing. Most money expenditures are not charitable but rather missionary work, getting more converts, which are required to tithe which grows the church wealth. Hording wealth is not charity or philanthropy! According to Mormon doctrine, one must tithe 10% of gross income, not net income, and charity is only the amount given exceeding that. He is allowed to give it in stock which is a major loophole since he can deduct value of the stock on the official day of donation even though he paid much less for the stock, thus avoiding taxes on the increase in stock value. If you continue to insist on responding from party talking points without checking facts, then I will not waste further time trying to help with your education.

Bless your heart, Miss Know_It_all. I didn't bother to read your liberal fantasy and fiction doctrine. Drinking Kool-aid while searching the internet in the wee hours of the morning doesn't equate to an educated indivdual. Your cutesy picture pretty much indicates a low IQ anyway. Since you insist on vomitting out your undying love for your American Idol Obama , then why bother reading your work of fiction?

Get some beauty and brain sleep, Know_it_all!

Romney isn't running this country, Obama is, and he has failed. His foreign policies, or lack thereof, has weakened us aboard and the folks in the Middle East know he doesn't want to kill Muslims, his origin. Obama doesn't know what side in up in the Middle East and has no clue what to do so he does nothing but talk.

He GAVE AWAY more money than he paid in taxes. This says more about Romney than anything anyone could say. The guys actions are admirable. I am actually glad that he isn't the polished teleprompter reader that Obama is. Obama got elected by his teleprompter skills and his lies. How well has it worked out for the country ??? Heck, some of the executives that got bailed out in TARP probably got higher bonuses than Romney made in total. How much do you think they gave away?

Whenever conservatives release tapes like this, the loony left screams that the statements were taken out of context and that the full tapes should be released. When the full tape verification is released, the loons get quiet. They are again quiet about little Jimmy’s missing two minutes from this tape, even though it was claimed to be a full tape. The truth is that little Jimmy doesn’t have a clue how long the recorder was actually “inadvertently turned off.” To his credit, Romney full owned this. My senior citizen parents understand the context of his statements. He was talking about the professional moochers not the “armed forces, senior citizens, those in assisted living, and hardworking individuals that earn minimal income.” The loons understand it as well. That is why they have set up this straw man argument of having “their lives changed forever.”

As I've stated before, the Republicans and the Democrats are very nearly two sides of the same coin. The biggest difference is what they want to spend and what they want to cut.

The best thing the US can do is break free of the two-party duopoly and start listening to the Libertarians, Greens, and Constitutionalists along with the GOP and the Democrats. For all the verbal mistakes Romney and Obama are making, you never hear the media mention Jill Stein, or Gary Johnson.

On this, I strongly agree. Even the founding fathers warned us about the dangers of having political parties and how they would eat away at our democracy. But instead of just turning to alternate parties, we need to change the Constitution to force all elections paid for by public funds to be non-partisan and have multi-district races for representative.

1

kevin 1 year, 6 months ago

I agree. The problem is while we wait for a 3rd party to get noticed, we need to save our country immediately, before we lose it forever. Under Obama for 4 more years, he has already to the Russian Pres. that he will "be more flexible" if he is re-elected. Obama is set to kill our Constitution once and for all. Haven't you listen to what he says and read between the lines? He has been lying to us sine 2008 to take over and change our system for the worse. No one is going to want to work anymore and the big fat corporations will still be here, being controlled by one person, a global President Obama. The line has been drawn in the sand and we have to have a President that will abide by his oath of office and use the Congress to change things.

Say_that_again 1 year, 6 months ago

This has so many distortions, I believe you are a lost cause. I am curious how the President can "use the Congress". Apparently you think the president is a dictator and that Congress should bow down to his wishes. The worse constitutional disruptors are: Republicans that insist every bill with wich they disagree must be filibustered. Republicans that believe we should instill laws that block legitimate voters from exercising their right to vote. Republicans that try to block groups like unions from their freedom of speech. Republicans that want to force their religious restrictions, such as birth control prohibition, onto others. What lame reasoning do you believe President Obama has attempted to kill the Constitution? I can cite numerous examples under Republican Presidents since Nixon took office.

Bless your heart, Know_it_all ... seems everything you vomit out is the fault of the Republicans and your American Idol Obama can do NO wrong. Pity that Obamacare probably doesn't cover your type of pre-existing condition!

Once again, those without facts resort to lame insults. Don't worry, insults do not bother me. Occasionally I even find them entertaining when it shows some degree of originality. Please try to show some originality next time.

1

Sthrnldy 1 year, 6 months ago

Bless your heart, Know_it_all! I actually feel remorse for interacting with someone of your delicate mental abilities. You show classic signs of narcissism in your posts, both original rants and retorts. FACT is, Know_it_alls are brainwashed and lack a mature conscience and critical thinking skills. Continue on with your worship of your American Idol Obama. Trainwrecks are facinating to watch!

2

Say_that_again 1 year, 6 months ago

Though slight improvement on your insults, still lacks any signs of true originality. Admittedly, plagiarism saves time.

kevin 1 year, 6 months ago

Legitimate voters will never be blocked. It is the idiots like you that try to scare folks. Don't you need a picture ID to shop or save money in a bank? The Federal government forces that on us already. Those functions are less important than a voting right. Have you lost your way? Move to Europe if you dare. As for abortion (murder), the Feds have no business being involved. This is between the baby and the mother and she should kill her own baby and pay for it. Do you need a seeing eye dog?

You folks forget we are spending money we are borrowing form an enemy, China. Do you need a seeing eye dog?

Admittedly, plagiarism saves time.

Wow. So you admit you plagiarize because you are too lazy to check for real facts. You don't even provide links to your sources or give them credit, so that is basically a double lie on your part. No credit given to the original lie being told and passed off as facts.

I agree with Sthrnldy, you need to get a job and resume a normal life. Sleep and carry on conversations with real people. Talking to yourself and calling it a discussion is nuts. Isolating yourself in your bubblehead and drooling over Obama is not going to get him elected.

Admitting you are wrong, like the slip above, is the first step. Good luck.

2

Say_that_again 1 year, 6 months ago

All you have managed to demonstrate is the ability to take words out of context and totally twist the meaning. Maybe you should get a job on Romney's campaign staff. It is easy to ramble out insults and accusations. If you find any instance where my information can be considered wrong, please explain instead of resorting to your childish tirade of insults. Then we can have a true discussion.

Bless your heart, Know_it_all. I think you have provided us with a valuable source and link to use in the future. Facts are facts, and this little gem might just come back to haunt you at every post.

I think you have proven to every poster on this forum you are a fraud and a not-so-pretty little liar! Bless your heart, Know_it_all!
