Garage fire displaces Snellville couple

SNELLVILLE -- A fire at a two-story detached garage on Thursday night has displaced a couple from their home.

Gwinnett fire crews responded to the blaze at 9:22 p.m. in the 4400 block of Shiloh Hills Drive in Snellville. Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said the fire caused extensive damage to the deck and exterior wall on the back of the house.

The garage, about 26 feet by 42 feet, housed a motorcycle, storage boxes, clothes, tools and paint.

Rutledge said a neighbor reported seeing flames and smoke pouring from the garage. The occupants of the house were at home at the time of the fire, and unsuccessfully tried to douse the blaze with a garden hose.

Rutledge said the cause of the fire, which originated in the garage, is under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious. No injuries were reported.
