Mill Creek Hawks (7-AAAAAA)
Coach: Shannon Jarvis
Record: 2-1
Last week: Beat Mountain View 49-0
Peachtree Ridge Lions (7-AAAAAA)
Coach: Mark Fleetwood
Record: 1-2
Last week: Beat Duluth 28-21
Peachtree Ridge turned its gruesome start around with a win over Duluth last Friday. The running game, behind Jordan Ellis’ 101 yards, was improved and should get better this week with the return of offensive lineman Daniel Stephens, who hasn’t played since the first half of the season opener vs. Camden County.
Most importantly, the Lions got a victory after not scoring a point in their 0-2 start.
“Of course, you want to get some confidence out of it, so that was the good thing there,” Peachtree Ridge head coach Mark Fleetwood said.
Mill Creek is 2-1, but could easily be 3-0 if a see-saw game at Brookwood two weeks ago went its way. Matt Kopp and the offensive line have been impressive all season long, paving the way for a deep set of running backs that will be stronger this week with a healthy Jacorey Lewis. Lewis was held back a little last week after suffering an arm bruise vs. Brookwood but is 100 percent this week, according to head coach Shannon Jarvis.
Even with a limited Lewis, the Hawks did just fine last week in a rout of Mountain View as fellow back Devozea Felton had a huge game.
“We played an exceptional ball game last Friday,” Jarvis said.
Last meeting: Peachtree Ridge won 35-20 last year
