LILBURN -- Investigators don't believe recent police activity at a Lilburn home in the 4000 block of Pineridge Drive had anything to do with a fire that damaged the home Wednesday night.
A neighbor reported the fire at 9:39 p.m., and fire crews had it controlled about 25 minutes later, officials said. No one was home at the time, but the occupants arrived as fire crews were on scene.
The blaze caused moderate damage to the basement area and sent smoke throughout the rest of the house. Its residents will be displaced due to the damage, but they did not request Red Cross assistance, said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation. Initial reports of a possible meth lab at the location were unfounded, Rutledge said.
