DULUTH -- The Duluth Fall Festival kicks off Sept. 29 in the downtown historic area with music, amusement park-style rides, carnival fare, a silent auction and arts and crafts vendors.

But this Saturday, the organization is hosting a free concert for Duluth residents to get ready for the big party.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. with Atlanta artist Roxie Watson, a five-piece string band who play "alterna-grass" music. It mixes three- and four-part harmonies with elements of old country, Appalachian music, hymns and bluegrass without specifically claiming to be one genre.

At 8 p.m., Atlanta party band Livin' Large take stage. The group is comprised of seven musicians, which consist of male and female vocalists, guitars, bass, keyboards, horns and drums.

Its song list includes music from pop, rock, country, R&B, blues, Motown, dance and disco tunes. Livin' Large covers music by The Beatles, Gap Band, Keith Urban and The Temptations, to name a few.

There will be a dance floor open for anyone brave enough to strut their stuff during the performance.

A few thousand people are anticipated to attend the concert. Seating is limited in the amphitheater -- bringing lawn chairs and blankets is encouraged.

Stay after the concert for the rescheduled fireworks display. During Duluth's July 4 celebration, the city's fireworks display was rained out, but has returned to celebrate the annual festival.
