The Cabin in the Woods Blu-ray (R)
Movie: 3 and 1/2 stars out of 4
Disc: 3 stars out of 4
The big twist toward the end of "The Cabin in the Woods" is good but not nearly as earth-shattering as some have proclaimed. Produced and co-written by "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator Joss Whedon (also the director of "The Avengers"), "Cabin" is nonetheless an extremely rare find. It's a horror film that is smart, challenging and irreverent and acts as both genre homage and parody. Three guys and two girls (jock, bimbo, intellectual, stoner and level-headed "normal" type) head off for a weekend retreat to a desolate cabin while a band of programmers literally underneath them guide their fates.
