Norcross' Yost committs to Ole Miss running

It didn't take long for Katherine Yost to make up her mind. A day after visiting Oxford, Miss., the Norcross senior committed to the Ole Miss cross country and track and field program on Monday.

"I'm really excited for her and it allows her to concentrate on the rest of the season," Norcross coach John Williams said.

Yost chose Ole Miss over interest from Georgia, Auburn, Purdue, Clemson and N.C. State.

"Katherine is a gem. She has not run a lot like other girls in terms of years," Williams said. "I think they saw her body of work and upside."

Yost grew up playing tennis and turned to cross country her sophomore year. She has won three races this season, including the Mercy Invitational where she set a personal record of 18 minutes, 31.53 seconds. Yost placed third at the Class AAAAA state track meet in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:58.84 this spring.

The daughter of John and Lynn Yost, she maintains a 3.7 GPA.
