PREP ROUNDUP: Hill, Jones help Lions edge Hawks

HOSCHTON -- Quinn Hill threw a complete game and Kayla Jones was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI as No. 6 state-ranked Peachtree Ridge remained in sole possession of first place in Region 7-AAAAAA by edging eighth-ranked Mill Creek 3-2 on Wednesday at Mill Creek.

Hill (8-2) gave up just five hits and two earned runs while striking out 10 in going the distance, and also got offensive aid from Andie McGregor, who was 1-for-3 and drove in a run, and Savanna Turvy, who added a hit to keep the Lions (16-2, 4-0) a game ahead of Collins Hill in the region standings.

SOFTBALL

Central Gwinnett 19, Centennial 5

ROSWELL -- Faith Dickerson threw four effective innings in the circle and led a 15-hit outburst at the plate as the Black Knights (7-6) routed Centennial 19-5 on Wednesday.

Dickerson (7-6), gave up just two hits and four runs, all unearned, with two strikeouts and was 4-for-4 with two home runs, a triple, a double and four RBIs in a game ending after four innings on the GHSA's run rule.

Also with a big game for Central were Aaja Matticx, who was 2-for-2 with a grand slam, a double, a stolen base and five RBIs, and Jaznee Cooper, who went 4-for-4 with a double, four runs scored, two RBIs and four stolen bases.

Wesleyan 13, GAC 8

NORCROSS -- CaraMia Tsirigos and Katie Frerking each had a huge day as the top-ranked (Class AA) Wolves outslugged the Spartans 13-8 in a Region 6-AA game Wednesday at GAC.

Tsirigos was 3-for-3 with three doubles, two walks and five RBIs, while Frerking finished 3-for-4, scored three runs and drove in two more as Wesleyan improved to 19-4 overall and 4-0 in region play.

Victoria DiStasi also contributed for Wesleyan by going 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBIs to help Dacia Jones (9-0) get the win after yielding just three hits and an earned run over three innings.

Courtney Czentnar led GAC (8-8, 2-2) by blasting a pair of homers and driving in five runs in a 3-for-4 afternoon, while Jordan Smalls was 3-for-4 with an RBI, Grace DeBoer had two, including a double, and scored three runs and Mary Johnson drove in a run and scored two more.

Brookwood 9, George Walton 3

SNELLVILLE -- Megan Litumbe went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double and two RBIs as the No. 7 Broncos (15-7) won their opening game of the Brookwood Invitational 9-3 on Wednesday.

Morgan Kosmala was 2-for-2 with a double and Mandy Blackwell went 2-for-3 with a double, while Susan Norris, Nicole Wilson, Amanda Falcon and Sam Leach each added a hit, and Amanda Ablan and Ansley Jones combined for five strikeouts in the circle for Brookwood.

Grayson 3, Lanier 0, 6 innings

LOGANVILLE -- Jen Spangler and Peyton Glover each pitched three effective innings, while Taylor Denton had a hit and drove in two runs as the Rams (6-6) downed the Longhorns 3-0 in a Brookwood Invitational game on Wednesday at Grayson.

Spangler (6-4) gave up just one hit with a strikeout in three shutout innings, while Glover earned her second save of the year after scattering three hits with three strikeouts over the last three innings.

Taylor Dirkse was 1-for-3, while Stephanie Snyder went 1-for-2 with an RBI and Glover and Caroline Sandhangen added a hit apiece.

Amberly Hays and Keisha Stone led Lanier (10-11-1) by going 2-for-3, each while, Stone allowed just five hits and three earned runs with a strikeout in a complete-game effort in the circle for the Longhorns.

Collins Hill 9, Norcross 0

SUWANEE -- Aeshia Miles threw three effective innings and added two doubles at the plate as the fourth-ranked Eagles shut out the Blue Devils 9-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA play Wednesday at home.

Miles (9-2) allowed just one hit and struck our four over three scoreless innings, while Amanda Chance finished up with two no-hit innings with a strikeout.

Offensively, Danielle Patterson was 3-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored, while Reagan Morgan was 2-for-3 with a double for Collins Hill (15-4, 3-1).

North takes two

SUWANEE -- The Bulldogs took two games at home Wednesday, beating Duluth 8-4 in a Region 7-AAAAAA game and then downing Blessed Trinity 7-2 in a Brookwood Invitational game. In the opener against Duluth, Kinsley Jennings had two hits and drove in three runs, while Alaina Hall added two hits and two runs scored for North (12-4-2, 3-1).

Kendall McKinney then had two hits, including a three-run homer, in the Bulldogs' win over Blessed Trinity.

Draven Sonnen drove in two runs, Mallory Koepke had a hit and scored two runs, Randi Tuck had a hit and an RBI and Katie Black added a hit to aid the pitching of Megan Kimble.

Archer 5, Jackson Co. 0

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Alesha Mann was 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and two RBIs an Alliyah Williams went the distance in the circle as the second-ranked Tigers (18-5) beat Jackson County 5-0 in a Brookwood Invitational game Wednesday at home.

Williams (5-2) gave up just two hits and struck out two in seven innings, and got help from Jacqui Switzer, who was 2-for-4, and Taylor Ockunzzi, who went 1-for-2.
