DULUTH -- An early morning fire Monday heavily damaged a Duluth home in the 3900 block of Pine Needle Drive whose residents were out of town, officials said.
A neighbor called 911 about 2:20 a.m. to report a fire in the home's laundry room. The mass of the fire was in a room behind a carport, and firefighters controlled the blaze about 30 minutes after arrival, officials said.
Police on the scene learned from neighbors that the home's residents were out of town at the time, said Fire Department spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden. No injuries were reported.
"There is substantial fire damage to the structure and a collapse in the room that had the majority of fire involvement," Rhoden said.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
