Gwinnett Parks and Rec to host festival for all

LAWRENCEVILLE -- On Saturday, Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation is hosting an inaugural event called Celebrate Ability Festival for the public to bring awareness and knowledge of services, programs and achievements within the community for those with disabilities. The event is held at the Rhodes Jordan Park Community Recreation Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"This is a first-time event and free to the public," said Janice Rinaldo, recreation leader at Rhodes Jordan. "Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation is excited to bring this opportunity for knowledge and community sharing together for the benefit of all citizens of Gwinnett in a beautiful open air venue."

In addition to face painting, food vendors and a talent show, there will be live sports demonstrations and local exhibitors.

The Gwinnett Masters Special Olympics will participate in a bocce ball demonstration while Blaze Sports will show how to play paralympic games, like goal ball and wheelchair basketball with demonstrations in the park.

This year's exhibitors include Canine Companions for Independence, Computer Paintings by William Power, Aerie Experiences' adventure therapy, the Gwinnett County Health Department, Exceptional Kids Athletics for children with physical or mental challenges, Dream Quest therapeutic horseback riding and more.

There is still room for more exhibitors, although space is limited. Call 678-277-0890 for more exhibitor information.
