DULUTH -- An entirely volunteer-based festival that has for decades entertained its city residents is coming up at the end of the month.
The Duluth Fall Festival kicks off Sept. 29 in the downtown historic area, with music, amusement park-style rides, carnival fare, a silent auction and arts and crafts vendors.
"The Duluth Fall Festival is a big part of what makes Duluth so special," said Alisa Williams, public information and marketing director for the city.
The festival begins on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 29, with a parade through the streets with more than 400 participants.
It's followed by the opening ceremony on stage at the Festival Center on the Town Green.
Organizers kick off Sunday morning with a 5K road race through downtown Duluth. There are continuous activities throughout the rest of the afternoon including Worship on the Green, a worship service led by a local church.
The festival weekend is preceded by a festival concert at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Duluth Festival Center Amphitheater. Bands include Livin' Large and Roxie Watson.
