COLUMBUS (AP) -- Authorities in Columbus say a woman accused of dragging a police officer with her car has been charged with aggravated assault on an officer.
Columbus police said 41-year-old Marlina Rivers was taken into custody Thursday and also faces charges of theft by shoplifting and obstruction of an officer.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that Rivers is accused of shoplifting nearly $200 worth of items from a Kmart store. Authorities say Columbus police Officer Whitney Foster responded to the store and tried to stop Rivers, who by then was in her car. Police say Rivers sped away, and at one point dragged Foster across the pavement.
Foster sustained injuries to her arms, legs and right eye.
Muscogee County Jail records do not indicate whether Rivers has an attorney.
