Georgia Gwinnett College released its inaugural schedules for its baseball and fastpitch softball teams, which begin play in February. Both teams will play at the school's new $13.5 million varsity athletics complex on campus.
The Grizzlies' baseball team will make its debut Friday, Feb. 8 with a 3 p.m. home game against Voorhees College, part of a three-game weekend homestand. The team will play a 52-game season, highlighted by 19 home games in March and concluding with an April 22-23 road trip to Lee University (Tenn.).
"We have built a very competitive schedule that will test our program in its first season," GGC head baseball coach Brad Stromdahl said. "We will have the opportunity to establish our team, see where we stand and continue to improve. We will face some of the best teams in the country as we play eight games against teams from last year's national top 25 and we are excited about building toward the challenge."
GGC begins its first softball season Saturday, Feb. 9 with a home doubleheader against Faulkner University that begins at 2 p.m. Half of the program's 56 games are at home, with most of those coming early in the season. The Grizzlies have just one home doubleheader in April after hosting six in February and eight in March. The season finale is April 20 at Voorhees.
"Our schedule is full of challenging opponents who are consistently ranked highly in the NAIA," GGC head softball coach Kat Ihlenburg said. "Quite a few of our opponents have made it to the NAIA championship tournament and we want to compete right away with the best teams in the country.
