Snow White and the Huntsman
Blu-ray (PG-13)
Movie: 3 stars
Disc: 3 and 1/2 stars
Unjustly lambasted by many, "Snow White and the Huntsman" walks a fine line between safe fairy tale and mildly disturbing horror adventure. While it is true that the leads playing the title characters (Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth) were less than stellar, the movie isn't about them but rather the Evil Queen (Charlize Theron). Not since her Oscar-winning performance in "Monster" has Theron embodied such a foreboding and utterly loathsome character and she milks it for all it's worth. This Blu-ray is unique in that it is the first high-profile title that sports more on-line apps than physical disc features -- and they're all pretty cool. The future of home video entertainment is headed straight in this direction and, like or not, we'd better get used to it.
