ATHENS (AP) -- University of Georgia police say they've suspended one of their officers after a woman accused him of sodomizing her.
The 28-year-old woman filed a complaint Thursday with Athens-Clarke police. A police report states that the alleged assault happened in May.
UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson says the 28-year-old officer was immediately placed on paid leave pending the outcome of criminal and internal investigations.
The police report said the woman told police that she and the officer had known each other for a few years.
Aggravated sodomy is punishable by a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
