LAWRENCEVILLE — Murder warrants have been issued for the son of a Lawrenceville woman found dead inside her home Tuesday.

Gwinnett County police announced late Tuesday night that 42-year-old Mark Wilson, who has not been located, has been charged with aggravated assault and felony murder in the stabbing death of his mother. The body of Phyllis Wilson, 72, was discovered by her husband at about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said earlier in the day that signs of trauma were found on the body, but weren’t calling the scene at the home on Simonton Glen Way in Lawrenceville a homicide investigation.

That changed later in the evening.

“Investigators are still attempting to establish a motive for this homicide and are currently looking for Mr. Wilson,” police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said.

It’s believed that Mark Wilson suffers from schizophrenia and may be in a champagne colored 2006 Toyota Camry with Georgia tag number ACE4286. Anyone with information on Wilson’s whereabouts is asked to call police 770-513-5300.

“Anyone encountering Mark Wilson is urged to use caution,” Ritter said.

A next-door neighbor, who withheld his name, said Phyllis Wilson was wheelchair-bound and used an access ramp that leads from the two-story home’s driveway to the front porch.

“She was a pleasant lady,” the neighbor said.

As crime scene technicians trolled the home Tuesday afternoon, a phalanx of neighbors consoled the husband, who wailed in his neighbors’ garage.

Ritter said police had no recent records of responding to the home, which sits on a slopping, quiet street in the Glen at Simonton subdivision.

“It’s safe — a very safe neighborhood,” the neighbor said.
