Warrant issued in shooting outside gas station

NORCROSS -- Gwinnett County police have issued arrest warrants in an August shooting outside a Norcross gas station.

Warrants have been issued for the arrest of 20-year-old Jotavion Sims, charging him with aggravated battery by disfiguring. Gwinnett County jail records showed the Norcross resident had not been arrested as of Thursday afternoon.

The charges stem from an Aug. 11 incident outside the Texaco gas station located at 5045 Singleton Road. According to police reports, two groups of males were arguing outside the station when "a short black male" -- now believed to be Sims -- walked over to the area and shot a bullet into the ground.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect "raise the pistol and fire it at the group of males that were standing in front of the food mart."

A teen later identified as Tyre Wilson, 19, was shot during the incident and driven from the scene in the back of a Ford Focus. According to warrants, Wilson was hit in the "face, neck and back" by bullets from a semi-automatic pistol.

If convicted of aggravated battery, a felony, Sims could face a sentence ranging anywhere from one to 20 years' incarceration.
