COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say the latest person who drowned in the Chattahoochee River was a 54-year-old man from Greencastle, Ind.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that Harold Brock's wife told police she saw her husband disappear under the water around 6 p.m. Tuesday in Columbus.
Police reports state that several witnesses told Brock not to go in the river because it's too dangerous. Police say Brock became caught in the current and couldn't break free.
It was the fifth such death in the Columbus area within a month.
Earlier, 30-year-old Krystal Brown and her 11-month-old son Mister Brown died Aug. 13 after she went into the river for her 3-year-old son, David Brown. The 3-year-old was rescued and hospitalized, but died days later.
Also, 23-year-old Jarvis Willis died while swimming Aug. 19.
