NORCROSS -- When most of us think about those who live across the pond, we think of British accents, cold and damp weather, Harry Potter and, maybe, Prince Harry's latest shenanigans in Las Vegas. But there is much more to show from the island, like cars.
On Saturday, Peachtree Auto Brokers and Taste of Britain have organized the 12th annual Atlanta British Car Fayre on both sides of South Peachtree and Jones streets in Norcross.
Some of the vehicles on display include Jaguars, Austin Healeys, Rolls-Royces, MGs and Lotuses, plus Triumph motorcycles. More than 150 cars and motorcycles have been registered for the event and many more can come to the show on Saturday because the car registration never fills up. They will take anyone who is willing to display their automobiles.
Radio station DaveFM's Yvonne Monet will have a tent set up broadcasting live from the event. The Iron Horse Pub will be serving traditional fish and chips picnic style to eat on the go and the Masonic Lodge will have an afternoon tea available from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tea time includes teas, scones with cream, a choice of small sandwiches and finger food for $10 per person. The cream teas are served by the Daughters of the British Empire with proceeds benefiting its charity Mountbatten House and the Masonic Home of Georgia. For advance reservations, call the Taste of Britain at 770-242-8585.
The car show will be offering a raffle with prizes. Grand prize includes a weekend for two at the W Hotel Atlanta, cash prizes and contributions from Norcross shops and restaurants.
Proceeds from this year's event, including the raffles, benefit the Rainbow Village of Duluth and Annandale Village of Suwanee.
