VILLA RICA, Ga. (AP) -- The city council in a west Georgia community has voted down an ordinance that would have required motorists to use a hands-free device while talking on the phone in their cars.
The Villa Rica City Council voted 3-2 Tuesday against the measure.
The proposal went beyond requiring hands-free cell phone use -- it would have also banned other activities that distract drivers, including everything from eating to brushing hair.
In May, Villa Rica Mayor J. Collins vetoed an earlier version of the ordinance, saying he believes the issue is something that should be addressed on a state level.
