JONESBORO — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting of a man by police officers in Clayton County, just south of Atlanta.
Clayton County police spokeswoman Chanti Ashmore said the shooting happened shortly before 5 p.m. Monday.
Ashmore said in a statement that officers responding to a call found a man holding a knife to his throat, "acting irrationally" and making threatening comments while burning items in his yard.
She said officers made several unsuccessful attempts to talk the man into dropping the knife, but the suspect made threatening movements and verbal threats, which led to officers opening fire.
The man, whose name wasn't released, was taken to a hospital. His condition was not available.
