LAWRENCEVILLE -- To kick off the Fall Into the Arts program, the Gwinnett County Public Library is hosting a competition where participants create works of art with chairs or benches for the "Chair-ish the Arts@ Your Library" contest.
The competition is open to individual artists or organizations, as long as the entered chair is decorated -- painted, cut, stamped, built from scratch, anything.
The deadline for all contest entries is Sept. 30 and the chairs will be displayed in several library branches throughout Gwinnett during the month of October.
From Oct. 8 and 31, online ballots and areas at the branches will be open for the public to vote its favorite individual and organization chair. Winners from both categories walk away with prizes.
In the individual category, winners have a chance of a picture of the winning chair featured on the library's home page for two weeks, an individual web page to feature the winning artist's picture, biography and information on the winning design, and a bouquet of gift cards valued at $100.
Organization winners could receive a picture of the winning chair, which will be featured on the library's home page for two weeks. An individual web page will feature the winning design, information about the organization and a live link to the organization's website.
The contest will end with an artist meet and greet on Nov. 3.
