PEACHTREE CORNERS -- A local church has begun hosting support groups for Alzheimer's caregivers.
Christ the King Lutheran Church, located at 5575 Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree Corners, offers weekly "Care for the Caregiver" support sessions, devoted to giving caregivers a break from the physically, mentally and emotionally exhausting challenge of caring for an Alzheimer's patient.
The group meets at 10 a.m. each Thursday in the church's conference room. The group is confidential, free of charge and does not require reservations.
The church provides the group to anyone, regardless of religious affiliation or denomination.
"It offers a place for caregivers to share their challenges and concerns and to just chat with people who understand what they face on a daily basis," an announcement said. "It also offers a respite from the day-to-day challenges of watching a loved one slowly fade into the depths of the disease."
