SUWANEE -- Early voting at George Pierce Park's Community Recreation Center begins this week.
A little more than 35,000 early votes -- including 17,312 in person and 12,590 by mail -- had been counted in Gwinnett through Wednesday, voter registration and elections coordinator Lynn Ledford said. That was a spike of about 13,000 since Monday.
With the solid showing already, officials don't know exactly what to expect for satellite offices like George Pierce. Ledford has previously said more people may come out because they are closer to home than the Gwinnett County Board of Registration and Elections office in Lawrenceville.
Voting hours at George Pierce Park, and three other satellite offices, will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The other locations are as follows: the Centerville Community Center in Snellville, the Dacula Park activity building in Dacula, and the Lucky Shoals Park Community Recreation Center in Norcross.
The main elections office at 455 Grayson Highway in Lawrenceville is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
County spokesman Joe Sorenson confirmed Thursday that disabled voters and those over 75 years old are being permitted to go to the front of the line during early voting, and will be on election day as well.
Nov. 2 is the last day to request an absentee ballot in the Nov. 6 election.
Early voting began in at least one location in each county on Oct. 15. Georgia legislators changed the law before the 2008 presidential election so that anyone could vote early within 45 days of the election without having to state a reason. This time it was with 21 days to go.
