Gwinnett Daily Post
The Georgia Gwinnett men's soccer team used two goals from junior David Burke to handle Tennessee Temple University on Friday in Chattanooga, Tenn., 6-0, earning a season-high sixth straight win.
With the win, the Grizzlies completed a season sweep of the Crusaders following an Aug. 25 program-opening victory, 12-0.
The GGC women dropped a hard-fought 4-2 battle to Thomas University on Friday in Thomasville, snapping a three-game winning streak.
The loss was the fifth straight road game for the Grizzlies as the team continues a season-long six game road trip. GGC fell to 9-6-1 with the loss while Thomas improved to 8-7-1.
"We found ourselves down against a very good possession team," said Grizzlies head coach Domenic Martelli. "We created several very good chances that could have meant a chance for us to battle and draw even but it just didn't happen. That's soccer, we have to regroup and keep the positives in moving forward."
Valeria de Santiago trimmed a two-goal GGC deficit in half in the 33rd minute.
After the Grizzlies went down 3-1 in the second half, Amanda Dale scored in the 54th minute to bring GGC back within one again, but a final Thomas score seven minutes later sealed the win.
The Grizzlies will round out their road slate with a 1 p.m. start at Georgia Southwestern on Sunday at 1 p.m.
