Ex-DeKalb deputy chief sentenced in bribery case

ATLANTA — Authorities say a former deputy police chief from the Atlanta area and a businessman have been sentenced in a bribery case.

U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates says former DeKalb County Deputy Police Chief Donald Frank was sentenced Thursday to three years and seven months in prison. The 49-year-old Yates will also serve three years of supervised release after his prison term.

Businessman Amin Budhwani was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison. The 48-year-old Budhwani will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.

Yates says Frank and former officer Willie Daren Durrett accepted money from Budhwani. Evidence at trial indicated Budhwani initially approached Durrett in 2007 to help him intimidate a small business owner with whom Budhwani had a dispute.

Durrett awaits sentencing Friday.
