A season that started with such promise, thanks to three straight wins, has dipped the other way for Central with four straight losses in region play. While the playoffs are a longshot, the Black Knights still aim to finish the right way.

“I’m trying to build some momentum and get things going again, get them focused on the things ahead of them, like a winning season, beat a team they’ve never beat in high school and just generally finish strong,” Central head coach Todd Wofford said.

Penalties and turnovers have played major roles in Central’s losing skid, but so have injuries. There is good news with the return of cornerback Darious Latimore, out since breaking a leg in the season opener, this week. Quarterback Eman Westmoreland, the county’s most prolific passer, also has been hobbled by an ankle injury that has made him less of a dual threat.

“(Westmoreland’s) as close to 100 percent as he’s been the last few weeks,” Wofford said.

Meanwhile, Parkview has seen nothing but victories since an early loss to Norcross. The Panthers have the region title in sight if they can avoid upsets the next few weeks.

Both Justis Rosser and Chris Carson topped the 100-yard rushing mark in last week’s win over Shiloh while Mac Marshall continued his steady play at quarterback since taking over for the injured Rob Youngblood, who may be back for a Nov. 2 game with Berkmar. Parkview’s defense, led by Nick Lawson, Kyle Williams, Shaq Vereen and Bradley Davis last week, also pitched a shutout.

Last meeting: Parkview won 22-15 last year
