Dacula Falcons (8-AAAAAA)
Coach: Jared Zito
Record: 0-7, 0-5 region
Last week: Had a bye
Shiloh Generals (8-AAAAAA)
Coach: Troy Hobbs
Record: 3-5, 1-5 region
Last week: Lost to Parkview 28-0
After reaching the state quarterfinals a year ago, this season hasn’t gone as planned for Dacula. The Falcons are still winless at 0-7 this year and that scares Shiloh head coach Troy Hobbs.
“They are very dangerous. Don’t let the record fool you,” Hobbs said. “They haven’t won a game, but they were very close. They are very scary.”
Two of Dacula’s last three losses have been by a combined eight points, including a 26-21 defeat to state-ranked Parkview. That kind of competitiveness gives Dacula head coach Jared Zito hope that a win is coming soon.
“We’re hoping so. We’re taking it one game at a time,” Zito said. “We’re trying to turn the corner. We’ve been close, but I think the kids are tired of being close.”
Dacula features two of the county’s top playmakers in running back/receiver Marcus Cox, who recently committed to Appalachian State, and quarterback Brandon Goodson.
“No. 8 and 9, those guys are very dangerous,” Hobbs said.
Shiloh started the year 3-0, but has dropped five in a row since then. The Generals have lost the last three meetings to Dacula by a combined 79-0.
Shiloh offensive linemen John Freeman and Michael Dennis have been a bright spot for the Generals in recent weeks. Zito will recognize a familiar face on the Shiloh sideline. Generals defensive coordinator Bryan Love was Zito’s D.C. at Spruce Creek (Fla.) in 2002.
“He’s a great motivator,” Zito said. “The kids really respond to him.”
Last meeting: Dacula won 25-0 last year
Directions to Shiloh High School: From Ga. Highway 78, go south on Bethany Church Road and school is on the right.
