Metro Atlanta jobless rate drops to 8.4 percent

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia labor officials say metro Atlanta's unemployment rate dropped to 8.4 percent in September.

That's down four-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 8.8 percent in August.

The Georgia Department of Labor announced the new preliminary unemployment figure early Thursday morning.

Labor officials say the jobless rate declined primarily because of 4,446 fewer layoffs in manufacturing, construction, trade, administrative and support services, and accommodations and food services. Also, 31,606 more people were employed.

Among other Georgia metro areas, the Athens area continued to have the lowest area jobless rate at 6.4 percent. The Dalton area had the highest at 11.2 percent.

Yeah, I enjoy looking at the darkest possible side of things that I can find too - those darn pesky numbers, showing unemployment declining, consumer confidence up, oil production up 22% in the last 4 years, stock market up nearly double since it hit bottom, unnecessary wars winding down, 23 of the top 25 terrorists taken out - all lies, I tell you!

Cleanupguy says ... all lies, I tell you!

Bless your heart, you sure do know a lot about lies, since you have told so many here on this very site! Please do tell, who are you posting as today?

Poor American Idol Obama, he should be kicking himself to not have hired your political blowhard personaility with a 98% success rate as his campaign manager. He could use a good liar right about now .. to help with his darn pesky declining numbers!

what's the rate for the city of Atlanta only? Let's not "doctor up" the facts to make the city look good!
