Wesleyan running back/linebacker Miles Smith won online voting this week as the Daily Post's Fans Choice Player of the Week.
The sophomore got 49 percent of the vote to win a competition with Brookwood's Ky Priester (36 percent), Mill Creek's Kelsey Griffin (12 percent) and Collins Hill's Justin Wyatt (3 percent). Smith got more than 1,000 of the 2,039 total votes cast this week.
Each week during the football season, the Daily Post will nominate four players for its Fans Choice Player of the Week. Online voting at www.gwinnettprepsports.com will begin Monday mornings and will end Thursdays at noon. The winner will be featured online and in the Friday print edition.
Smith earned the honor after rushing for 127 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries in the Wolves' game last Friday against Westminster. He also had 12 tackles (10 solos) and two tackles for losses on defense.
"Miles is an outstanding young man who is unafraid to set high goals for himself both on and off the field," Wesleyan head coach Franklin Pridgen said. "He devotes all his energy to meeting those goals and sets a tremendous example for his teammates. His recent performance against Westminster merely showed the public what we already know, that Miles Smith can do anything he puts his mind to. I am so proud to have Miles as part of our football family at Wesleyan."
