AUGUSTA — A hospital spokeswoman says a physician who was considered to be Augusta's oldest living doctor has died. He was 102.
University Hospital spokeswoman Rebecca Sylvester tells The Associated Press that Dr. W.G. "Curly" Watson died early Wednesday of complications related to a fall at his home during the weekend. He had been hospitalized in the facility's intensive care unit.
The Augusta Chronicle reported that Watson has practiced at University Hospital for more than 60 years, and he is estimated to have delivered 15,000 babies there over about 50 years.
He's also the oldest living graduate of The Citadel, the military college in Charleston, S.C., where he graduated in 1931.
