She also was the Daily Post's Field Performer of the Year in track and field in 2012 after winning the Class A state championship in the high jump and is a key member of the Wolves' state playoff softball team this season.
Wesleyan senior Katie Frerking made a commitment Monday night to the Auburn women's basketball program. She is the daughter of Susan and Bill Frerking.
The 6-foot wing chose the Tigers over Richmond, SMU, N.C. State, Pittsburgh, James Madison, Lehigh, Samford and others. She is the fifth member of the Wolves' basketball senior class to commit to a Division I athletic program.
Frerking averaged 8.5 points, 6 rebound, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks last season as she won her third state title in three high school seasons at Wesleyan. She was at her best in the state championship game with 20 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocks, which helped her earn all-state honors.
Frerking, who has been with the Wesleyan basketball program since sixth grade, also is a key player for the Wolves' softball team that plays this week in the state championships in Columbus.
