Juvenile diabetes walk comes to Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Juvenile diabetes, commonly known as type 1 diabetes, is a lifelong condition because the body isn't making enough -- or any -- insulin in the pancreas.

To raise money for a cure, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is hosting a walk on Sunday in Tribble Mill Park.

"We are excited to expand JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes to include Gwinnett," said Brett Mangum, development manager of the Georgia chapter of JDRF. "We are working to find a cure for this disease and the money raised at these events makes a real difference in the lives of people battling type 1 diabetes."

The walk is a little over three miles long and offers participants a chance to learn more about diabetes. Walkers who raise $100 or more receive a commemorative T-shirt.

The money raised goes back into the JDRF and its research and research-related education about the disease.

Registration starts at 1 p.m. and the walk begins at 2:30 p.m. Tribble Mill Park is located at 2125 Tribble Mill Parkway in Lawrenceville.
