WINDER-BARROW BULLDOGGS (8-AAAAA)
Coach: David Wagner
Record: 0-6, 0-4 region
Last week: Lost to Flowery Branch 54-14
LOGANVILLE RED DEVILS (8-AAAAA)
Coach: Eric Godfree
Record: 1-5, 0-4 region
Last week: Lost to Apalachee 35-28
The Bulldoggs hope to take a page from cross-county rival Apalachee in dealing with Loganville and trying to end their losing streak, which reached 30 games last week.
“We go into every game looking to control the ball and the clock offensively,” Winder head coach David Wagner said. “(Apalachee) did a real good job of that. They had two really big drives and when you add in a couple of turnovers, you give yourself a chance to win.”
To give themselves the best chance to win, the Bulldoggs hope to enhance its running game by giving junior fullback Johnny Hester more action to help out workhorses Chad Platt and Chandon Sullivan. And if the running game allows Winder-Barrow to shorten the game, it will also help a defense charged with the task of trying to slow down a Red Devils offense led by Braxton Beck and Bernard Merriweather. It would be a shot in the arm for a team looking for a boost against an opponent also looking for a change in direction.
“I feel like we match up well in a couple of areas,” Wagner said. “Lognaville has a a lot in common with us. They have a lot of common opponents that they’ve played very similarly to how we’ve played them. You just hope the kids continue to show up and play hard. And so far, they’ve done that.”
Last meeting: Loganville won 42-7 last year
Directions to Loganville High School: From Hwy. 20, take a left onto U.S. 78. Take slight right onto Hwy. 81 and then another right on Clark McCullers Drive.
