CEDAR SHOALS JAGUARS (8-AAAAA)
Coach: Chris Davis
Record: 3-3, 1-3 region
Last week: Did not play
For the first time since the season opener, the Wildcats were able to execute their game plan almost to perfection in the second half of last week’s come-from-behind win over Loganville.
A grinding running game led by Eric Tanner, Zay Henry and Kyle Jackson helped Apalachee control the ball and the clock with scoring drives of 13 and 17 plays in the final 24 minutes, and the defense came up with two big stops to preserve the win.
“We’ve been in a lot of close games (through one half) this season,” Apalachee coach Shane Davis said. “But this time, we found a way to win.”
The Wildcats will need for a similar effort this week against a Cedar Shoals team that has plenty of weapons, including RB Adrian Washington, who has two different 200-yard games this season, as well as QB Darius Jordan and receiver Chris Middlebrooks.
“They’re athletic, to say the least,” Davis said of the Jaguars. “They’re big on the offensive and defensive lines. They’re very physical.”
Once again, ball control will be the key, with Apalachee looking to get a continued push from is line, led by center Jonathan Dye, to give the running game room to operate.
Last meeting: Apalachee won 28-13 last year
