BERKELEY LAKE -- Mayor Lois Salter and city council members Thursday listened as deputy city administrator Pat Chapman reviewed a special-use application for an auto body repair shop located at 4540 South Berkeley Lake Road. The application specifies that the type of work to be done on the premises is "high end restoration."

According to Chapman, the property is one that was recently annexed into the city and had a Gwinnett County M-1 (light industry) zoning designation.

The city's Planning and Zoning Board will hear the matter on Nov. 13, and the application will come before the mayor and council again at the regularly scheduled city council meeting on Nov. 15.

2009 bonds to be refinanced

Salter announced Thursday that, with low interest rates available to municipalities, city administrator Tom Rozier has the city's approval to begin shopping rates at which to refinance the city's 2009 series bonds. "We're trying to save the city some money with the lower interest rates available now," Salter said.

City extends waste disposal contract

Council members voted Thursday to extend the city's waste disposal contract with Advanced Disposal Services for another three years. Following this action, the contract will expire on Dec. 31, 2016.
