LAWRENCEVILLE — Police believe a fatal shooting Tuesday night in a neighborhood near Lawrenceville could have centered on some type of scam.
Gwinnett police responded to a shots fired call about 8:40 p.m. in the area of Bridge Walk Drive and Oak Road, near Ronald Reagan Parkway.
Officers found the body of 22-year-old Lawrenceville resident Rashad Jones near the Riverstone subdivision tennis courts at that location, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.
Jones was found in possession of an unloaded gun, Ritter said.
“Homicide investigators interviewed several people and potential suspects and have learned that the motive behind this may be some type of rip-off involving a scam,” Ritter said.
What the scam may have involved was under investigation Tuesday, he said.
Ritter noted that none of the suspects or the victim live in the neighborhood where the shooting took place.
An investigation continues.
