HAMPTON — Mill Creek's boys cross country team had five runners finish in the top 20, led by Eric Westog's first-place finish to win the Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday. The Hawks scored 47 points to edge Woodward Academy by one point and Parkview as third with 58 points.
Westog posted a time of 16 minutes, 8.89 seconds to win the race. Matt Tippins (16:25.48) was fourth overall, Sam Costa (16:58.62) was eighth, Jonathan Westog (17:23.36) was 16th and Josh Arceneaux (17:27.56) was 18th.
Parkview was led by Nick Schofer's third-place finish and a time of 16:21.88. Alec Harp (17:01.49) was ninth, Alex Sullivan (17:09.76) was 11th, Julio Morales-Perez (17:13.78) was 12th and Luis Herrera (17:54.36) was 23rd.
Shiloh's Kamau ninth at Asics
WHITESBURG — Shiloh's Bryan Kamau finished ninth overall at the Asics Invitational on Saturday.
Kamau posted a time of 15 minutes, 43.88 seconds. Teammate Nahom Solomon was 11th overall with a time of 15:45.23.
Collins Hill was Gwinnett's top team with a sixth-place finish. The Eagles were led by Daniel Ellis' 15th place finish and a time of 16:02.06.
Mill Creek beats Parkview at Golden Eagle
HAMPTON — Mill Creek's Hannah Lopez and Lauren Hovis went one-two at the Golden Eagle Invitational on Saturday to lead the Hawks to the championship.
Mill Creek scored 31 points to beat Parkview's 48 points.
Lopez posted a time of 20 minutes, 9.92 seconds to win the race. Hovis was second with a time of 20:37.19. Ashlee Varnson (21:15.04) was sixth, Samantha Hollis (21:34.63) was 11th and Jessica Fanczi (21:42.28) was 13th.
Parkview was led by Valerie Ward's third-place finish and a time of 20:52.54. Julie Wang (21:12.62) was fifth, Jessica Escorza (21:16.32) was eighth, Elizabeth Trompeter (21:45.91) was 15th and Rachel Hurst (22:05.63) was 19th.
Storm's Tuttle eighth at Asics
WHITESBURG — Providence's Tayler Tuttle placed 11th at the Asics Invitational on Saturday. Tuttle had a time of 18 minutes, 40.46 seconds.
Collins Hill was Gwinnett's top team with a 12th place finish. The Eagles were led by Mariah Maring's (19:12.72) 14th place finish and Lacey Ellenburg's (19:13.95) 17th place finish.
