MONROE -- Led by tournament MVP Eden Muray, Hebron Christian Academy battled through the loser's bracket Saturday to win the Area 6-A tournament title with a deciding match win over host George Walton Academy.
The Lions began Saturday losing to George Walton, but beat Prince Avenue to set up the rematch in the day's final, which Hebron won 25-17, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22. The historic title gives Hebron the No. 1 seed in the state Class A tournament beginning Thursday in Dacula.
Murray collected 41 kills and five blocks on the day and along with being named MVP, she was named to the all-area team. Bridgette Oduro (16 kills) and Anna Katherine Murray (68 assists, six aces) joined Murray on the area team. Wilson and Courtney Civelli were each named to the all-tournament team. Also for Hebron, Alli Johnson had 12 kills and Ashliegh Thomas had 13 kills on Saturday.
