GAB: Seniors meeting features Nash, Hoskins

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Gwinnett Council for Seniors Monthly meeting will feature several guest speakers including County Commission Chairwoman Charlotte Nash.

Other speakers at the 10:30 a.m. event Thursday include Chief Mike Boyd from the Sheriff's Department, director of community services Phil Hoskins and director of the department of transportation Kim Conroy.

The event will be held at the Bethesda Senior Center, 225 Bethesda Church Road, Lawrenceville.

Photography exhibit open through Nov. 28

SUWANEE -- A photography exhibit featuring works by Frank L. Sharp and A. Wendell Tudor runs through Nov. 28 at George Pierce Park Community Recreation Center.

Hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Sharp is displaying photographs of "Israel, the Holy Land." His love of photography and travel to Europe and Asia have been his inspiration.

Tudor's photos are "Images by the Sea." His love of the coastline and landscapes compels him to continue his passion. He frequently returns to Canada to photograph places he remembers from his youth.

George Pierce Park Community Recreation Center is located at 55 Buford Highway N.E., Suwanee.

Jackson EMC awards $53K to area agencies

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Jackson EMC Foundation, a charity funded by the donations of the cooperative's members through the Operation Round Up program, has awarded $53,000 to six agencies that provide programs or services to residents of Gwinnett County.

The grants included:

-- $15,000 to the Gwinnett Housing Resource Partnership in Duluth

-- $10,000 to St. Vincent de Paul -- St. Monica's Conference in Duluth

-- $10,000 to Tiny Stitches Inc. in Suwanee

-- $7,5000 to For Her Glory of Gainesville

-- $5,500 to Place of Seven Springs of Snellville

-- $5,000 to the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta.
