A scheduled blended with opponents from larger classification and an out-of-state trip is complete, setting up Wesleyan for its Region 6-AA opener against Hapeville Charter. The Wolves had a three-game winning streak until stumbling the past few weeks, losing 33-0 at Jefferson County and then losing last week in Tennessee.
They hope to stop that skid against Hapeville Charter, a new program that just began playing varsity games last season.
“Hapeville Charter is a relatively new program with good coaching and several impressive players,” Wesleyan head coach Franklin Pridgen said. “It will be a great first region game for us and one that will require our best to win. We’ve learned a lot about ourselves over the last two weeks especially, valuable lessons that have helped us grow, and now we are ready to beginning the home stretch of the regular season.”
A better defensive effort is necessary from the Wolves, who have given up 88 points the past two weeks after playing well earlier in the year. In the previous four games, no team had scored more than 19 points on Wesleyan.
Meanwhile, the offense got back on track last week. Quarterback Will Anderson accounted for four TDs and threw for 326 yards and wideout Jahmai Jones had a huge game with 11 catches for 151 yards and three scores. Teammate Sam Carver added seven catches for 98 yards.
