This is a game where something will give.
Both Peachtree Ridge and Mountain View come into Friday's game losers of two of their last three sandwiching the losses around a win over the overwhelmed and winless Habersham Central. Neither team has found the success it entered the season looking for.
The young Bears, under first-year head coach Doug Giacone, had an extra week to prepare for Peachtree Ridge and do what Giacone has preached all season: steady growth.
At Peachtree Ridge, the Lions show flashes of potential before things unhinge late in games. Last week against Collins Hill, the Lions trailed 14-10 at halftime before the Eagles turned the game into a track meet, winning 41-10.
“Somewhere in there, I thought we played decent in the first half the other night,” head coach Mark Fleetwood said. “In the second half we can’t put it together, a full game. That’s what we’re really focusing on.”
One of the good things Fleetwood saw from his team in the lopsided loss was a defense playing well against the run. The defensive line, anchored by Tony Porter, Dominick Hall and J.R. Jones, will get another chance Friday against the Bears running attack led by tailback Marvin Elam.
Last meeting: Peachtree Ridge won 28-17 last year.
Directions to Mountain View High School: From Ga. Hwy. 316, go north on Ga. Hwy. 20 and bear right on Ga. Hwy. 124. Turn left on Sunny Hill Road and school is on the right.
