SUWANEE -- Gwinnett County Public Schools is inviting students with special needs and their parents or guardians to explore post-secondary opportunities as they transition from the local district.
Students and parents can learn more about opportunities during the GCPS College Fair for Students with Disabilities from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Instructional Support Center, 437 Old Peachtree Road, NW, Suwanee.
During the fair, families can meet with college representatives by visiting college booths from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. College admissions and disability representatives from-year universities, two-year colleges and technical colleges will be there to provide information about how they can meet students' special needs.
In addition, information sessions will be offered from 12:20 to 3 p.m. Participants can learn about special accommodations the schools, what students and parents should be doing to prepare for college, choosing a career path, navigating GACollege411.org and opportunities for financial aid.
The district sponsors the event in conjunction with the Area II Gwinnett County Council of PTAs -- the Parents and Teachers Association unit with membership from schools in Collins Hill, Duluth, Lanier, Mountain View, Norcross, North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge.
